California Desperados
vs.
ACMSA

as reported by WildCat Kate

The Border Shootout was undeniably a raving success in more ways than one. Team 'California Desperados' came away with the perpetual trophy cup riding to victory with a scorching win over the Arizona Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, ACMSA. While a serious rivalry, it was also a most gracious display of sportsmanship. Four stages were run on Saturday and four on Sunday to determine overall, reserve and division champs; as well as the coveted Perpetual Trophy Cup Winners.  It was a nail biting experience as we sat on the edge of our seats waiting for the team winner to be announced. All we heard was the "California Desperados' and the most jumping up and down and screaming we have yet to see about a Mounted Shooting Victory.

We had an all you could eat potluck dinner, that would put the finest caterer in town to shame; then karaoke singing that gave a new meaning  to the word 'entertainment.' Highlight vocals were belted out by Jim Rodgers and Johnnie Concho, performing 'I'm a Honky Tonk Man' every manly man in the crowd was on stage to shout "Born to be Wild". If we didn't know any better, they seemed to be riding Harley's onstage. Last, but certainly not least, was Don Hensley performing his rendition of 'Louie, Louie' with the back up antics of every woman in the crowd.  There are too many 'stars ?? ' to mention...you'll just have to practice up and be there next time.  The president of ACMA Mike Oxford sang, but where was Joe Whiteley? Come on Joe, here's your challenge to sing at the next karaoke night......don't let us down.

The weather was great, there was actually grass and flatlands to camp on at the Fairgrounds in Blythe, Calif., with water and power, showers; and a nice arena. Thanks to Joe Whiteley, Pres. Calif. Desperados and Mike Oxford, president of the ACMSA. for organizing this great event which is sure to be the start of something big.

Seems some of the Arizona horses sported new brands on Sunday morning.

The weather was quite mild for January.

Gentleman Joe and Hollywood show them how to run the stage.
